First of all, congratulations on joining our nursing family! We all know just how hard you have worked to reach this milestone and cannot wait to meet each of you and welcome you into the next 2 and a half years of your life!
Recognized as California Nursing Students’ Association (CNSA), Fresno State Chapter, we work very closely with the School of Nursing to offer support and advice to prospective and current nursing students - both at Fresno State and beyond. As each of us can remember struggling through our first semester as a nursing student, one of our most beloved traditions as an organization is our bi-annual Welcome Lunch and Nursing School Boot Camp. These events are student-led and offer mentorship that is tailored and adapted each semester to meet the most current needs of students.
Based on student feedback and suggestions over the years, our boot camp has grown to include:
Great information from nursing faculty as well as a variety of guest speakers
A detailed introduction to first semester assignments and expectations
Raffles for a variety of nursing supplies
An overview of the program curriculum as a whole
Some hands-on training in skills that will help you in your first semester and beyond
Individual mentorship with upper semester students for the entirety of the program
Historically, these first few days together as a cohort have turned into great memories and led to a more approachable start to your success. Boot Camp will take place on Auust 9th on Zoom and August 10th-12th in the Nursing Resource Center on campus. Once again, congratulations on getting here. We look forward to meeting you!
